My last post on Facebook generated a few responses for which I need to clarify my position:

  • I AM in favour of building a new Cowra Hospital on the proposed site.

but:

  • I AM NOT in favour of demolishing the Old Cowra Hospital which would be a waste of valuable space in a building that is still in good condition - that would just be a silly waste of built resources that could be used for other health-related community functions.

  • Even if there is a cost involved to remove asbestos or lead paint, that would still be the case whether the building is demolished or not.

The recent good news is:

The 2022-23 NSW Budget includes an additional $40 million for the Cowra Hospital redevelopment, bringing the total for the project to $110.2 million.

The additional funding boost will enable more services and facilities to be delivered, including:

  • An extra emergency department bay
  • A second birthing suite
  • Two additional inpatient beds
  • Three additional chairs for renal and oncology
  • Four additional dental chairs
  • Enhanced training and educational facilities.
  • Landscaped facilities once the hospital is built, to ensure patient’s their carers and staff have access to a calming outdoor environment.
